About Us

Hi, I’m Jordan Mackenzie, the founder of Canada on a Budget.

I hold a Master’s degree in Business, and for years I’ve been focused on managing my finances as efficiently as possible here in Canada. Like many Canadians, I’ve spent countless hours comparing bank accounts, hunting for the best deals, understanding taxes, finding ways to cut everyday expenses, and figuring out which government programs I actually qualify for.

That’s why I created this website.

I quickly realized that much of the personal finance advice online is written for Americans. While some principles are universal, Canada’s banking system, tax rules, government benefits, and cost of living are very different. Advice that works in the United States often doesn’t translate well here.

Canada on a Budget exists to provide practical, Canada-specific financial information that helps people spend less, save more, and make smarter financial decisions based on how things actually work in Canada.

Every article is thoroughly researched using reliable Canadian sources. Whenever possible, I also include insights from my own experience managing money in Canada. My goal isn’t to tell people how they should spend their money—it’s to make complicated financial topics easier to understand so readers can make informed decisions for themselves.

How I Cover Different Provinces

I’m based in Manitoba, and I believe transparency matters.

When I write about topics that apply to other provinces, I rely on official provincial government publications, legislation, and other authoritative Canadian sources rather than personal experience. Because rules, taxes, rebates, and assistance programs often vary by province, I make every effort to clearly explain when information is province-specific instead of presenting it as though it applies everywhere.

If you ever notice information that’s outdated or inaccurate for your province, I’d genuinely appreciate hearing from you so I can update it.
